Oct 7 @ 3pm – 4pm: live @ Hallwalls + live streamed to social + website
This panel focuses on Bashira, BIFF's Opening Night Gala Film – and explores character and place (real and imagined) in story and cinema. Panelists will discuss their film, shooting on location in our multinational region, their creative practices and processes, collaborative poiesis and exchange, and more.
In Bashira, an electronic musician (Liam Aiken) and a troubled fan with a haunting voice (Mitzi Akaha) are plunged into a hallucinogenic nightmare when they must confront an ancient entity capable of bending space and time, and wreaking havoc and death.
Based on a Japanese legend and shot on location throughout Buffalo and surrounding lands (including The Statler, Rock City State Forest, and more!), this musical-horror-fantasy film is one wild ride! It features state-of-the-art special effects that merge studio and WNY locations into new worlds.
Panelists: Director Nickson Fong, and Stars Liam Aiken, Mitzi Akaha, Kiki Sukezane, Emma Caymares, and Brandon Gill, and Producer Chris Bongirne.
Moderator: Anna Scime
Please note that while this event is free and open to the general public, BIFF will honor reservations made first at the door, before we allow walkups entry. We strongly encourage you to reserve a spot as soon as you know that you want to attend. If seats are filled we will make note of it here on our website and on social media.
